Spellbound, a think-tank collaboration group headquartered in Newport Beach, is full of creative doers, out-of-the-box thinkers and passionate innovators. Therefore, it’s only fitting that the art welcoming visitors to the space is just as inspiring and full of energy.
“The CEO placed his trust in me and my vision, gave me a budget and turned me loose. He had no idea what I was going to install until he saw it. The day before I left town for the installation, he sent me an email that said ‘go bold, make it pop’ — This brought a big smile on my face since that is exactly what I had done. How fun to see how delighted he was with the finished products. In fact so pleased, he asked me to measure additional walls and to start planning ‘Phase 2’ of the project”.
The 3D sculpture consists of 56 wooden cubes, each individually glazed (one side at a time), hand painted with bright color and slowly glazed again for a final, glossy seal.
‘Thinking out of the Cube’ was then installed on-site in Newport Beach, along with two other custom sculptures also commissioned for the project.
The display of the cubes is playful and represents the creative power of a team working together to make a bigger and unique statement.
The final cube is opposite the others, with the wood on top and the color at the bottom, installed on the skew, attached at an angle… taking the thought of thinking out of the cube even one step further.
